A Better 'Digg This' Button

It's no secret that I'm a fan of Digg.  This would be the third project I've built on their API (the other two can be seen here and here).   This project is basically what I'd call a more interesting version of the 'Digg This' button.  Essentially, it is a real-time, customizable flash embed that displays the amount of diggs (and possibly other info like number of comments) given a particular story id.  In the example below, you will see Mario hit the coin box every time the story is dugg, no need to refresh the page.  Additionally, an official 'digg this' button is appended and updated via Javascript every time the story is dugg.

NOTE:  I'm fully aware how annoying the sounds are on this widget are ;)... it's a joke example and not intended for widespread use... if you want a less annoying version for your blog, check out the graph or the plain text one available in the following link

There are several other styles available, check out the gallery page to experiment.  If you wanted to get custom visitor statistics for your widget (views, interactions, etc), just hit the 'remix me' button in the gallery page and you'll be given access to stats specific to the widget you create.  This is a cool way for visitors of your site to see that people are giving attention to your digg story.  You could really customize this to do whatever you want... simply make a flash file published for Actionscript 2.0 and upload it somewhere... then load it from the "Custom" option in the drop down menu in the gallery page.

Use the following template:

System.security.allowDomain(_parent._url)
function updateDiggs(story)
{
    //this function is called roughly every 5 seconds
    //story.diggs will give you the number of diggs.
    //story.comments will give you the number of comments.
}

function resize(w,h)
{
  //event to resize to the width and height of the widget if necessary
}

function setColor(color)
{
    //event to change the color of anything if necessary
}

useless

no it's not

this is a bandwidth killer :( poor little websites go :crash:

very cool. keep em coming!! maybe with a way to turn off the sound. or what about moving the mario along a stage as the story gets dugg. just a thought!! that mario is getting rich!!!

hmm..for me, it's cool...

A jumping mario to count diggs is pure genius and it looks stylish too!

Nifty, but unacceptable for use on Digg because it requires Flash, which is a closed technology.

but this is not meant for digg. mario is a licensed character. this is to be used in a blog. so the sound wouldnt really be annoying as there would be not many diggs as for this one. cool

What a great idea! I hope that this works out well for you! :)

Not that great :/

Excellent concept, ignore the haters, (just see how many diggs you got for this story)

Definitely gives me an idea for something for my own site...

Could someone reply to this comment to soundartisan@gmail.com and let me know how the hell i can get this onto my page? i don't have a blog under wordpress or blogger or anything but want to have this on my site!!

Awesome idea! I heard he plays the 1-up sound when you hit 1k, 2k, etc votes. :)

I HATE IT! If this becomes the new digg button I'm comming to your house to kick you ass.

Very nice, I will use that button!

Cute!

Great fun, it really ads to the sense of community at digg. Thanks for your efforts!

Pretty cool. Love the mario theme. Not sure it's good fit for digg though.

Good

simply awesome...hats off...to the idea..

Here comes the nostalgia...This is adorable ;D

Nice way to increase the diggs on this story: "does it really work, let's digg it" :-))

Cool idea, but it eats up too much bandwidth.

This is too small.
