Upcoming Maintenance to Reporting System

We are planning on performing some maintenance functions to our backend reporting systems over the next week.  We will begin the maintenance each night at 8pm Pacific and will complete the maintenance by 10pm Pacific.  During the maintenance period, you may not have access to view your reports, but all of the data will continue to be gathered and will be available to you after the maintenance window has ended.

Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns about this maintenance.  Thank you for your support.

Upcoming System Maintenance - Preparation for Migration

Over the past few months, we have been working on a migration plan that will move us from our current infrastructure at our colocation facility in San Diego to a superb AOL datacenter.  This move will allow us to provide our users with additional scalability and performance boosts.  The boxes are all in place, they're fully configured and we're planning on performing the migration toward the end of next week - we'll make sure to give you more information about that in the next couple of days.

In the meantime, we are going to be performing system maintenance tomorrow to ensure that the actual migration will go smoothly.  The system maintenance will last from 6pm Pacific until 6am Pacific, although it is our expectation that we should be able to restore full operation of the system earlier.  During this time, the widgets will continue to be served and tracked as you would expect them to, but our site will be in maintenance mode, so you will not be able to access the dashboard or any of the components of the dashboard including reporting.

Stay tuned for additional information and improvements...

Release of our API & Analytics / Maintenance

We will be performing maintenance tonight (3/29) from 7pm to 8pm Pacific.  The maintenance will likely take under 30 minutes, but during this period of time, the site may be partially or completely unavailable.

Once the maintenance is completed, the yourminis API will be available for all developers.  Thanks to those of you who have participated in our private beta - you have helped us strengthen then API.

This change is implemented with a new "developers" tab, which will give you all of the necessary information surrounding our API.  In addition, this new tab will enable you to upload your finished work product into the "labs" area of the community, allowing other members of the community to interact with your newly created widget.

In addition to allowing developers to create and distribute their widgets, we're also giving them the ability to analyze how that widget is being leveraged throughout the Internet.  Our reporting console will provide information including the number of views, a comparison of new vs. return viewers, the average number of views per viewer, the number of views per domain and the number of views per country.  Below is a simple snapshot of a reporting summary:

And finally, we've managed to fix a number of issues with this release:

  • dezamp pointed out two issues that we were able to resolve.  First, the "mark all as read" feature was not working within the Digg widget.  Second, the hover over within the bookmarks widget showed the details for the wrong item.
  • mjmj pointed out that we somehow "broke" the functionality of RSS widgets in minimal view - that is if they were clicked and then minimized again.
  • As others of you have done, Doymarn has downloaded our desktop widget environment - and he's found some issues with the notepad widget which are now corrected.  Doymarn also suggested that we add the "copy to desktop" functionality to the widgets within the startpage - and so we have.
  • It seems that we weren't encoding data in our embedded widgets properly - and thanks to harrycaul, we now are!
  • There was an issue with changing the title within the RSS widget.  It seems that the title would just become "undefined".  Thanks to terenceonline for reporting it.
  • We've made the MP3 player resizable horizontally for those of you with small sidebars on your blog.  Thanks for pointing this out to us, Bill - now you can put the MP3 player back into your sidebar!

As always, it's likely that we've fixed more than just what's listed here.  And it's also possible that we broke some thing too...  So please keep the comments coming and we'll do our best to add your feature suggestions and fix any issues!

Product Update & System Maintenance

We will be performing system maintenance from 8pm to 12am on Tuesday, January 30th.

We'll be performing the system maintenance as part of an update to the system  Some of the specific items that we will be adding in the release include:

  1. Many new minis!  We're introducing minis for Alexa traffic charts, eventful events, horoscopes, Rotten Tomatoes reviews, ThisNext recommendations, a webcam mini displaying publicly available webcams and today's Woot.  Lots of new additions which we'll update in more detail as soon as they are available on the live site.
  2. Additional customization options for each mini, including the ability to frame borders of each mini to Rounded (default), Square, Rounded Frame (mini itself is transparent) or Square Frame (mini itself is transparent).  You can even set a background image for each mini!  These customization options are available by clicking the color wheel and then selecting the "Advanced" option.   Don't forget that after making the customizations, you can copy the mini to your blog or personal page.
  3. RSS Improvements including the ability to set the font size and family for the feeds and also the ability to display the actual article inline and then page through it as you would with the photo mini (next/previous/play/etc.)

There's definitely more that went into this release, including bug fixes and other improvements, but features will be immediately apparent to all.

As always, we hope that you enjoy the experience.  Please let us know your thoughts/comments/suggestions in our forums.
